Education for Photographers
Elise’s floral first birthday party was such a special event. It was a celebration of getting through a very difficult, yet sweet year. It was a celebration of love and laughs, a celebration of our sweet little girl- Elise. Our close family and friends know how hard our pregnancy and newborn stage with Elise was (I’ll blog about this journey next), and while we had a small baby shower, it was really hard to truly celebrate with everything going on. A year later, it is so different! We have so much to be grateful for, so much to thank God for, and this party was a moment to stop and truly do that. While things in the morning were definitely hectic, everything came out perfect. It was so much fun, so sweet, and best of all, Elise enjoyed all of it.
I’ll be honest, I have been pinning and planning this party, since Elise was 6 months. I knew I wanted the party to match her nursery and be light, airy, and definitely floral. Finding ways to personalize this theme was so much fun, and everything came together at the end. Her cake table was decorated with a peach, pink, white, and ivory balloon garland that incorporated the color scheme we were going for. While it felt like it took forever to do, and making sure the crazy winds that day didn’t take all the balloons out was stressful, it was such a perfect touch. Combined with the “one” balloon, it was chic and fun! We dressed the cake table with a white tutu skirt, that didn’t over-do the décor and kept the table clean, yet beautiful.
Because of the already busy balloon garland on the cake table, we wanted the sweets to be simple in decoration, but still tie into the floral theme. Bakeology not only created the most beautiful cake, cookies, and cupcakes, but they were so delicious! Everyone at the party commented on how good the deserts were. We decorated the already gorgeous cake with a peach rose, a powder pink carnation, and eucalyptus that we purchase from a local flower market. The cupcakes on the other had, we topped off with gorgeous peach, pink, and white floral paper flowers. These were seriously one of my favorite pieces of the party. We then made a couple of floral arrangements filled with roses, carnations, and eucalyptus to accent the floral décor of the cake table. We’re so happy with how everything turned out, simple yet beautiful.
In addition to a sweets table, we knew we wanted to have a table where guest could write something Elise would always remember, and could also take memories with them. This was seriously a fun table to create! We put together all of Elise’s monthly photos in individual frames. We painted some crates white, and had a couple of pictures on top, and other on the bottom to add dimension. Creating the guest table sign, and monthly picture sign brought the table together with the floral theme. This table also included the favor boxes that we customized with floral stickers with Elise’ name. One of our favorite parts of this table however, are the tissue paper flowers hanging on top of the pink backdrop. It was the perfect touch a fun and floral, and super easy to create.
For our guest tables, we knew we wanted floral centerpieces that didn’t break the bank. It was so easy to create these bottle centerpieces and we loved the way they came out. We basically recycled old wine, champagne and Izzy bottles, and bought a couple of additional bud vases. Then, we spray painted them white, which was a lot easier than we thought it would be. We finished them off we a combination of roses and carnations. All our guests loved these, and we seriously wished they would last forever because they were so beautiful.
For refreshments, wee created a fun juice bar for our guest, filled with cold pink lemonade, regular lemonade, and fruit filled water. They were the perfect refreshments for a hot Texas day. Even the little ones had fun with this cute juice bar.
In addition to pretty, we wanted this party to also be fun. We had face painting, balloon twisting and games for the little ones. We also created a Kahoot game about Elise for the adults, and ended the night with a sweet video of Elise’s first year. Elise had so much fun, and enjoyed the music, the games, and sweets. It was so nice to see her enjoy her day. We can’t wait for many other festivities to come!
